About a week.
A dry socket ( otherwise known as alveolar osteitis)is thought to be due to loss of the clot in the socket resulting in a localized osteitis. The pain usually starts 2 to 3 days after the extraction and will continue for up to 2 weeks. The dentist has the option to pack the socket with a number of medicaments which will burn the terminal nerve endings resulting in relief of the pain . This is short lived and the pain will return in a day or two necessitating a trip back to repack the socket until healing has occured.
It should heal in 2-3 weeks, especially fi you go back and get appropriate treatment from your dentist.
