How long before novacaine wears off before they feel teeth extractions from an oral surgeon?

If left in a room for over 30 minutes can the patient actually feel wisdom teeth pulled out? What is the average time frame that teeth can be extracted witth novacaine (specific anesthesia)?
Answer:
I would have to say about 2 to 4 hours before it starts wearing off. It really depends on the person and how high or low there tolerance is to the medicine. It also depends on how much novacaince to give a person... I usually have to be shot with more than the average person. But, once it takes affect and the person can't feel anything, it defenantly shoudln't wear off with in a 30 minute period.
an hour ?
It depends on how much they give you, but it's usually a couple hours. You feel lots of pressure, but shouldn't feel pain.
Two hours tops. Then get out the pain pills. Yay for pain pills!!
If you are worried about getting some wisdom teeth out, let me tell you, that is one of the best things you can do.I have had 3 taken out. I was slightly sore and had to have a puff on it for a few hours. It healed in less than a week and it felt great! My gums healed very quickly.
No. The patient will never feel the actual extraction. The novocain lasts much longer than that. However, if they do begin to feel something, all they have to do is say "Ugh" or wave their hand or something and the dentist will ask what they need and add more novocain. It almost never happens that way. The patient will be numb long after he/she goes home. But the dentist will give him a prescription for strong pain pills, and the patient should take them if needed.
The Novacaine lasts between 2-4 hrs. You should not feel actual pain, but you will certainly feel a lot of pressure and discomfort during the extraction. If you do feel any kind of PAIN (not pressure or discomfort) alert your dentist and they will give you more Novacaine. Also, the longer and stronger your roots are, the more difficult it will be to remove the tooth which can be uncomfortable. Good Luck!
