How does a dentist adjust a poorly fitted temporary crown?

I had a temporary crown placed three days ago and my bite feels extremely high. When I chew on the opposite side, it still clangs down on the temporary crown first. Does the dentist have to take the crown off to make an adjustment or can he or she file parts down? And do I need to be numbed up?
Answer:
No need to be numbed for this! They'll just have you bite down on a piece of paper and file it down while it's still on the tooth. Should just take a minute or two.
She'll just grind off the high spot
